Design Guidelines & Standards

Is there a lack of architectural consistency within the downtown, along a corridor, or within a neighborhood? Design guidelines/standards can establish recommendations and/or rules that can govern building materials, window and door placement, building scale and proportionality, architectural details and other important design criteria.  Clear standards will help to achieve a more consistent and successful urban form, and it will make the development approval process more predictable for developers.

Are your current architectural guidelines/standards ineffective or hard to understand?  We not only develop language that effectively guides new development, but we provide handbooks that illustratively explain the intent of the regulations within the plan.
Is there a street corridor or district in your community looking tired? A façade improvement program helps to encourage property owners and businesses to improve the exterior appearance of their buildings and storefronts through financial incentives (e.g., matching grant or loan, a tax incentive, design assistance, etc.). MSA can assist in the creation of this program, including the process, administration, requirements and forms.
