Web & Mobile GIS Project
Client: City of Shell Lake
Location: Shell Lake, WI
MSA worked with the City to develop a centralized, mobile solution to its infrastructure data challenges.
Similar to what many communities face, the City of Shell Lake has been challenged by information loss due to staff turnover through retirements. Current staff members weren’t involved in the public works projects completed 25+ years ago, which means it takes them longer to respond to emergencies, repair old infrastructure, and even to complete routine maintenance projects. The City needed a way to centralize information about its current infrastructure to improve efficiencies in the future.
The City had GIS mapping in place but struggled with amount-of-content, currency and access issues. MSA’s GIS experts recommend Esri’s ArcGIS Online to provide a long term and efficient solution to many of the City’s challenges. Through ArcGIS Online, MSA will provide the City with a central GIS repository of water, sewer and other infrastructure information, plus access to web map applications. These applications will help the City view system details and provide access through mobile applications to system data, allowing staff to instantly recording their activities.
