The City of Hubbard has a long history of providing library services to their rural Iowa community. Their existing facilities were significantly undersized with a growing number of users and circulation. The existing library was on a raised floor elevation that is not accessible to the disabled.

MSA designed an all new 7,000 facility on a lot in near the City’s downtown. The contextual response provides a civic relationship to the existing City Hall building with the use of relative materials and forms. Computer modeling was used throughout the project development to explore design iterations and aid in consensus forming. The facility provides for the children’s, young adult, adult and genealogy collections. Many new amenities will proper staff work areas, computer stations, study rooms, hospitality (coffee) area and fireplace reading area. The library will be served by a sub-dividable Program/Community Room that will also provide an opportunity for City meetings.
