MSA's planners worked with the City of Janesville on a streetscaping plan to enhance the downtown.
Main Street is located in the heart of the City of Janesville’s downtown and within several of the City’s Historic Districts. The existing roadway, sidewalks, and streetscaping have deteriorated and are in need of rehabilitation. As part of its Downtown Vision Plan, the City proposed to rehabilitate Main Street to promote growth and spark new enthusiasm in the downtown. The corridor is home to several downtown events, including parades, festivals, farmer’s market, and music events.
MSA used its experience with the DOT design process and working with the WisDOT’s local program management, to lead the project and design a project that had a refreshed look and that could serve as a footprint for future downtown street projects. MSA worked with many stakeholders during the design process, including: the City of Janesville, WisDOT, Historic Preservation Committee, City Parks Department, and the Janesville Downtown Development Alliance. MSA also went door to door to discuss the project design with the business and property owners. We also investigated for the location of any sidewalk vaults that may extend under the sidewalk.
MSA’s final design included the mill and overlay of the asphaltic roadway, sidewalk replacement, landscaping, streetscaping amenities, street lighting, enhanced crosswalks, signals, and storm sewer. Our team worked with the City to transform this important corridor into a unique, attractive, and functional roadway.
