MSA worked with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on a transportation plan to balance safety and function.
UW-Oshkosh was proposing to close several streets in an effort to improve safety and enhance the campus experience. MSA was retained to evaluate the impacts of those street closings, and also to evaluate parking supply and policies and alternative transportation options on and around the campus.
This review, completed as collaboration between our traffic engineers and our Planning & Design Studio, resulted in refinements to the planned transportation network to balance safety and function with campus character. We provided recommendations on traffic and street design both on and off campus, parking supply and demand management, bus service, pedestrian facilities, and bike routes and parking. We also recommended programs to encourage use of alternative transportation options on this constrained campus. The review enabled the University to proceed with adoption of the campus master plan and to win University system and City of Oshkosh approval for the first of the street closures.
