The Village of Wonewoc and MSA developed an economical addition that met the community's tight budget.

The Village of Village of Wonewoc has a long rich tradition of serving the area with a public library. The community usage has outgrown the existing 1939 classic library building. Further, the two-level building does not have an accessible route between floors for the disabled. The Village turned to a design/build team to develop a respectful addition that could meet the community’s tight budget. MSA, as the project architect, developed a very economical wood-framed addition that is not only sympathetic of the existing building but improves it with a new accessible main entry and accessible rear entry. The 4,369 square foot addition includes a split level entry with a new elevator. The Library space includes a new Children’s Area, Young Adult area, Circulation desk with director’s office. The Lower Floor will provide a new Program Room that can also serve as a community room after hours with a small kitchen.

The economically effective strategy included limited remodeling to the existing building, new openings to interconnect the new and the old and a partially finished lower level. Further, the existing toilet rooms were left in place to satisfy the code mandated fixture count and adding one new accessible Family (private) Restroom on each level. The project received CDBG funding and was completed on budget and schedule in the fall of 2013.
