The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Iowa recently announced its juried selection of 2022 Engineering Excellence Award winners. The City of La Porte City, in partnership with MSA Professional Services, Inc. (MSA) was chosen to receive an Engineering Achievement Award in the Special Projects category for the rehabilitation of Main Street and transformation of Wolf Creek Park.
Engineering Achievement Award submissions are appraised on five categories: uniqueness or innovative application of new or existing techniques; future value to the engineering profession and perception by the public; social, economic and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owner needs.
The La Porte City Main Street rehabilitation project is the culmination of a multi-year planning and redevelopment process. It fully reconstructs four blocks of downtown street with new concrete pavers, improved sidewalk, lighting, intersections, and raises a portion of the elevation of Main Street to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The project also updates downtown utilities and creates Wolf Creek Park, with new downtown and regional connector trails, parking lot, canoe/kayak launch and open-air pavilion.
“MSA and the City of La Porte City are honored to receive this recognition,” remarked Rob Uphoff, PE, senior vice president of public works at MSA. “We extend our congratulations to our partners at the city and to all the other award recipients as well.”
ACEC Iowa Engineering Excellence Award recipients will be formally recognized at an awards ceremony during the chapter’s annual conference May 18, 2022.
