Expansive opportunities

Sparta, Wisconsin—a dedicated and creative user of the MSA ArcGIS Online asset management system—called upon MSA’s GIS staff to help promote economic development and community growth related to the expansion of a new business park within the City.

In addition to helping to promote the new South Pointe Business Park, City officials wanted to help draw extra attention to the fact that a portion of the parcel had been deemed a Certified in Wisconsin^® development-ready site, as distinguished by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). This designation provides sites with expedited development opportunities by assisting with the acquisition of key approvals, documentations and assessments that otherwise tend to slow momentum.

Intuitive, in-depth user experience

To promote this 200-plus-acre site, MSA’s GIS staff developed a publicly-shareable Story Map which presented all critical maps, documents, videos and external supporting information, which was then shared on the City’s website and via email to any interested parties.

Attributes such as municipal boundaries, parcel size and locations, sale and availability status, WEDC zones, and a 3D tour allow users to virtually step into the business park project and explore the possibilities from any location. It also provides demographic and statistical data about the greater Sparta community, travel time to the business park from surrounding areas, and video testimonials from businesses who have already chosen to relocate to Sparta as well as videos from residents about why others should consider moving to, and investing in, Sparta.

The South Pointe Business Park has completed Phase I of work and is currently working on Phase II. The City of Sparta broke ground on the park in September of 2018, the same year of the Story Map creation.
