The Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association recently announced its 2020 Chapter Award winners.

The City of Sun Prairie Comprehensive Plan 2019-2039, completed by MSA Professional Services, Inc. (MSA), was selected to receive a Best Practice Planning Excellence Award, recognition given to just four plans across the state.

The APA-Wisconsin awards program was established for the annual acknowledgement of outstanding achievements and innovations in planning, and the organizations and professionals whose activities advance planning excellence. The Best Practice Award focuses on the emphasis of results and how innovative practices and planning methods create better, more resilient communities.

The adopted Sun Prairie Comprehensive Plan 2019-2039 establishes a concise vision for the city, which is to seek balanced growth, safe and healthy neighborhoods, and equal opportunities for all residents to pursue their dreams and live full lives. Developed through a multi-faceted public engagement effort, the plan identifies the people and tools to guide the community in achieving this vision, utilizing forward-thinking policies and an array of actions to budget for and implement over the next five, 10 and 20 years. A neighborhood-scale focus for some of those actions helps to emphasize the importance of planning and attention at the neighborhood level.
